Restoring Strong Public Schools
Restoring Strong Public Schools
Iowa as a leader in Education?
Iowa’s history of excellence in education meant that small towns and rural Iowa communities were full of opportunities for people. Education meant jobs and opportunity. Iowa traditionally consistently ranked as one of the top 5 states in the nation for quality education. We are at #27 presently for Pre-k-12 (US News and World Report). With public money funneling out of public education (School Vouchers or Education Savings Accounts), the gutting of AEA, teacher raises failing to keep up with inflation, and teacher shortages, we have work to do! We need to return our educational system to being a national leader and return to our roots.
Part of that mission has to be the improving the public educational system with public funding for the benefit of all Iowan school children.
Returning collective bargaining power to teachers, improving wages and working conditions to recruit more teachers to combat our teacher shortage, eliminating the flow of public funds out of public schools, Auditor oversight for the expenditures of public funding, and returning AEA services are some of the steps we need to take.
